The problem isn’t the tax system — it’s timing. By the time most accountants see your numbers, the year is over and the opportunities are gone.
This is what reactive accounting costs you. Not just in dollars — in missed opportunities, unnecessary stress, and decisions made without the right guidance.

A tax return reports what happened in the past year. Tax planning is about shaping what happens before the year ends — legally reducing your taxable income through timing, structuring, and smart decision-making. Most accountants only do tax returns. We do both, but the planning is where the real value is.
This depends entirely on your situation — your turnover, structure, income distribution, and what decisions you’re making. For many of our clients, proper planning saves tens of thousands of dollars per year. The savings are always legal and always backed by the Tax Act.
Commonly used structures include family trusts, bucket companies (private companies used as beneficiaries to cap tax at 25% where the company is a base rate entity), and holding entities for asset protection. A bucket company fed by a trading business normally qualifies for the 25% rate; one whose income is mostly rent, dividends or capital gains usually does not, and is taxed at 30%. We don’t apply a one-size-fits-all approach — we review your situation and recommend what actually makes sense for you.
The sooner the better — but most urgently before 30 June each year. Ideally we like to be across your position by March or April so we have time to action any opportunities. If you come to us in late June, some options may already be off the table.
